you google wrong
I just read this article and realized how helpful it will be in your future endeavors. How do you Google, and what tips from this article do you find valuable? If you have some time over the weekend please skim and comment to this post (optional, I know you have a lot on your plate already and we'll discuss some of this in class next week :).

I think its valuable that he said specifically that proper information search is an elaborate "process", rather than a simple "command" (Ctrl+F noobs lmao). Other than that, I already knew about most of these ,except for the "-enter text". I never knew it could omit items from your search. Still a good article though.
ReplyDeleteI found a blog with a response to this article if you're interested :)

That. Response. Is. Awesome.
DeleteI think that this article is cool and all. It allows us to be more efficient than we already are. The problem is I, honestly, won't remember to use these. I feel that what I already get is good enough and fast enough for my expectations.
ReplyDelete1. Whatever you're getting now isn't even close to good enough-- it's what you've settled for because you don't know what you're missing.
Delete2. #1 doesn't matter unless you think it does (find the story about the zen monk, the Buddhist scholar, and the overflowing cup of tea...)
It turns out that even though we blind people kick ass at Googling, we suck at "proving we're not a robot". Seriously, has anyone here ever tried using the audio version of the security code? It takes me like 5 tries to post something, every time! Listen to it next time, and be glad you have good vision.
ReplyDeleteThe only problem I have with this article is that it says those who use these techniques are only 1% of google users.
ReplyDeleteWhy is that a problem? They search more effectively than 99% percent of the population.
