October 18

JOURNAL TOPIC: [today's tunes: "Beyond Belief" by Elvis Costello; "Satisfaction (I Can't Get No) by Devo; "Suspicious Minds" by Elvis Presley]

If you've started reading Act III, explain two elements of foreshadowing from Acts I & II.  If you haven't started reading Act III, make two educated guesses about the plot and Hamlet's character.

AGENDA:
1. Journal
2. Sarah Gutierrez/Hamlet media
3. Begin Act III
4. "To Be or Not to Be"

HW:
1. Read Act III

3 comments:

  1. In Act III, Hamlet lectures the players about how to recite "The Murder of Gonzago" so that they understand exactly the way he wishes everything to be said and done. If Hamlet is so anal about the play, why doesn't he recited the play himself? Even if he doesn't know the whole thing word for word, he's clever enough to make up lines that would fit into the play, and it would certainly make people think he was crazy if he randomly got up and started reciting it when they had the players all ready to go and recite it.

    1. Hamlet has to watch for the king's reaction to see if he is guilty or not.

    2. Also, I think there is a social protocool that forbids Hamlet from acting in the play. Even though he is acting crazy he probably thinks it wouldn't be proper to act.
