a parent reflects on a child leaving the nest

Thought some of you might be interested in this perspective from a parent whose son is about to leave for college.

  1. I think he's right about "Nothing ever adds up quite the same again." When we talk about leaving as children it all seems so calm and mathematically based on our age. However, now that we're actually leaving "the nest" our parents reasoning mind seems to leave them. All of a sudden it's all panic and denial from their attempts to add infinities, and have us leaving just as confused and frightened as they are. (:
